Home Bible Study

"Yes, I am coming quickly." Amen.
Revelation 22:20

This is a Home Bible study. It exists to promote the Word of God as it's written, which means nothing added or taken away, and minus opinions.

The Bible is the only source of Divine Truth in the world today. Although it is helpful and informative in many ways, the Bible might not tell us everything we want to know but the Bible does tell us everything we need to know.

My role is to guide you through the Scriptures; to explain what this book says and in some cases what it does not say because this is just as important.

Ultimately, you have a decision to make concerning your salvation - no one can make it for you. The Lord Jesus Christ, the Creator God, has given everyone the ability to make choices - this is is called "Free Will." I pray you consider your choice wisely.

II Timothy 2:15

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.

The Ark of Security - Part Two

HBS Genesis 7:1-24

Lesson 20

Well, that was certainly a long break from our Bible study.  Now it's time to settle down and get back into the Word of God.  Please open your Bibles and turn with me to Genesis chapter seven.  In L 19, we discovered that the Ark was more than just a place of refuge for Noah and his immediate family.  We know this to be true because the Bible says that God shut the door of the Ark behind them.

Hebrews 11

7: By faith Noah, being warned by God about things not yet seen, in reverence prepared an ark for (What?) the salvation of his household, by which he (God) condemned the (unbelieving) world, and became an heir of righteousness which is according to (What?) faith.

Get the picture?  Because Noah made a conscience decision to enter "in" to the Ark, and this by faith in what God had revealed to him, Noah and his family were saved from the flood waters of judgment.

Again, the Ark is an Old Testament picture of the salvation experience today.

We also reviewed Scripture to see what the Bible has to say about the eternal security of the believer who is now "in" Christ Jesus.  Question: Can anything or anyone cause you to lose your position in Christ Jesus which by faith you freely chose to enter "in?"  No.

Romans 8

35: Who will separate us from the love of Christ?  Skip to verse 38.

38: For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers.

39: nor height, nor depth, nor any created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is (found where?) in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Furthermore, since this promise comes from God, it will never be rescinded.

So, as there was only the one door by which entry could be made into the Ark to find safety and security, today there is but one name under heaven by which we may be saved.  Salvation is found no where else but in Christ Jesus.

Question: how does one know they are "in" Christ Jesus.  That's a valid question.  Let's answer it.

The first step, if you will, in the salvation experience is this:                       YOU NEED TO KNOW THAT YOU ARE LOST!

Perhaps you are familiar with Jesus' parable about the lost sheep.                Turn to Luke chapter fifteen.
I've heard this parable taught a couple of different ways.  Usually they teach the shepherd left the ninety-nine sheep that were already saved, to go after the one sheep that was not saved.  It was lost...
That's not what this parable is saying.  Please read along with me.

Luke 15

4: "What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture and go after the one which is lost until he finds it."

Be careful.  Jesus does not give us any more information than what is found here, so we shouldn't add anything.  These 100 sheep belonged to the shepherd.  One is lost; so he searches for it.

In verse four, it says these sheep belonged to the shepherd.  Let's look at that.  Please turn to Exodus 19.

Exodus 19

5: (This is the LORD God speaking to His elect the nation of Israel) "Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be (Here it is) My own (What?) possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine...;"

Out of all the people and nations on this planet, God chose the little nation of Israel to be His prized possession.  The Bible is very clear on this point.
No other nation on earth may make that claim.

Turn back to Luke chapter fifteen.  So, all these sheep belonged to the shepherd.  And now verse seven.

7: "I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance."

When you study your Bible, always observe who is speaking, or writing, and who are they addressing.  So, who was Jesus addressing?
The answer may be found in verse two.

2: Both the Pharisees and the scribes began to grumble, saying, "This man receives sinners and eats with them."

Jesus was addressing the religious leaders and scribes who were there with Him.  You see, these Jews believed themselves to be right with God.  Why?  They confessed to keeping the Mosaic Law, etc.  Therefore, they did not need salvation.  They actually thought they had already obtained it.  So these self-righteous Pharisees are the ninety and nine sheep the Shepherd left in the open pasture in order to answer the cries of the one that knew it was lost.

To put it plainly, they were LOST and not saved; and they did not recognize it.  So, this parable teaches us a couple of things.  But like the one sheep which cried out for help because it knew it was lost, each person must come to an understanding.  They must admit that they are lost and need to be saved!

Romans 3

Skip down to verse twenty-three.

23: for all have sinned (Jew and Gentile, man and woman, boy and girl, young and old) and fall short of the glory of God,

Turn back to Luke chapter fifteen.  The clue to this parable's meaning is in verse seven.

7: "I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents (Admits he/she is lost) than over ninety-nine righteous persons who (believe they) need no repentance."

Jesus Christ hears the "one" voice that cries out for help and responds!

So, you've come to realize that God is right.  You are lost.
This reminds me of a well known church hymn:
"Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me...
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

What's next?  Well, it's time for some Good News!

Romans 1

16: For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is (What?) the power of God for (What?) salvation to everyone who (Joins a particular church denomination, tithes regularly, sings in the choir...no.  What does it say?) believe.

You can't make the message any clearer.  Salvation is based upon faith plus nothing.  That's what this book says.  Anything added to this process is of man and not from God.

1 Corinthians 15

1: Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel (Not a gospel as if you can pick and choose one.  But the one and only gospel) which I preached to you, which also you received, in which you also stand.

2: by which also you are (What does it say?) saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.

3: For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,

4: and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.

When you believe that Jesus Christ paid the sin debt which God demanded, and that He died, was buried, and then rose again on the third day, according to the Scriptures, then you are indeed saved.  There is not one more thing that you need to do.  Salvation is by faith alone.

But why must I believe this gospel from the apostle Paul?
Scripture holds us accountable to no other gospel.  Follow me to Romans chapter sixteen.

Romans 16

25: Now to him who is able to establish (To start or set up something that is intended to continue or be permanent) you according to (Now watch this) my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the (What?) mystery which has been kept secret for long ages past,

Now what does that mean...kept secret for long ages past?
The gospel of grace was known only to God since before the creation event.  It had been kept hidden in the mind of God until He saw fit to reveal this mystery to the apostle Paul and no others.

Galatians 1

11: For I would have you know, brethren, that the gospel which was preached to me is not according to man.

12: For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus

Paul didn't go up to Jerusalem to be taught the gospel of grace by the twelve apostles.  What does the book say?
Paul received this revelation from the Lord Jesus Christ personally.
This event happened on this side of the cross.  Ask yourself, at this point in time where was the Lord Jesus Christ?  He was in heaven.
He ascended into heaven while the twelve apostles looked on.
That being the case, Paul received this revelation from the ascended Lord; and he was commissioned to take this good news to the gentles (Non Jews).
Prior to this revelation and Paul's commission, this was unheard of.
The Jews were to have nothing to do with pagans or the gentiles.

No other gospel for salvation is applicable to us believers today.
Where do I get that?  I get it from Scripture.
I dare say, most Christians are not even aware that these verses are in their Bible.  But they are.

Romans 2

16: on the day (At the Great White Throne Judgment) when according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus.

Now lose me.  We are answering the question, "how does one know He or she is in Christ Jesus."  Well, you're either in Christ Jesus or out.

Those who are saved are said to be in Christ Jesus.  But there is a definite process here and we are looking at that process.  Before a person can be saved they must understand that they are lost.

The next step is believing the gospel of grace.  Once you appropriate, by faith plus nothing, all that Jesus Christ accomplished on the cross, you are then justified by God.

What does that mean?  Justify means to declare guiltless.

Romans 3

24: (God did everything that needed to be done for us to obtain salvation.  So now for those who believe the gospel of grace, God sees these people as) being justified as a gift (Now what is a gift?  Something freely given right?  What happens as soon as you offer to "do something" in exchange for the gift?  Why, it's no longer a gift.  In fact, you then place God in debt to you) by His grace through the redemption (Or the process of buying us back) which is in Christ Jesus.

These next few verses speak to us believers about being in Christ Jesus.

1 Corinthians 12

12: For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.

13: For by one Spirit we were all baptized (Here it is) into one body, whether Jew or Greeks (Gentiles), whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.

Skip down to verse 27.

27: Now (After you believe and that's it.  Nothing but faith is required) you are Christ's body, and individually members of it.

Turn to II Corinthians 5.

II Corinthians 5

17: Therefore, if anyone is (Where?) in Christ, he (or she) is a new creature; the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come.

There's more.  Please turn to the book of Ephesians chapter four.
Comparing Scripture with Scripture, that's how Bible study is done.

Ephesians 4

4: There is one body (Only the apostle Paul speaks of the Body of Christ.  You won't find this teaching anywhere in the O.T., the four gospels, or even the book of Acts.  It is unique to Paul only) and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling;

5: one Lord, one faith, one baptism.

One more and then we'll move on.  Please turn to Romans 12.

Romans 12

4: For just as we have many members in (How many?) one body and all the members do not have the same function,

5: so we (Those who have believed the gospel of grace) who are many, are one body (Where?) in Christ, and individually members one of another.

You are said to be "in" Christ Jesus when by faith you believe the gospel of grace.
At that time, at that instant, you are transmitted into the Body of Christ.

Let's return to our Genesis study.  Please turn to Genesis chapter seven.

Genesis 7

4: "For after seven more days, I will send rain on the earth forty days and forty nights; and I will blot out from the face of the land every living thing that I have made."

5: Noah did according to all that the LORD had commanded him.

I mentioned this some time back, but it bears repeating for those who were not here at that time, and for those who may not have understood it.  When you see the word "LORD" capitalized in the Old Testament, it is God the Son with only one exception.  Psalms chapter two, verse two is that exception.

LORD = Jehovah which is Jesus Christ in His O. T. personality.

In verse five, we see that Noah did all that God commanded.

6: Now Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of water came upon the earth.

The Scriptures say that Noah was five hundred years old when he had Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
When the flood came, he was six hundred years old.

Approximately one hundred years of obedience to God was necessary for Noah to construct the Ark and then prepare for the Day of Judgment.  This world's Day of Judgment is drawing near; and how are they preparing for it?  This world rushes headlong to meet it in their unbelief.  Today the majority refuses to recognize God the Son and they shun His offer of grace.  But this is nothing new.  What does the Bible say about this?

Matthew 7

13: "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it."

14: "For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life (salvation), and there are few who find it."

So, remember this.  When it comes to Spiritual things, the majority get it wrong.
I'm certain Noah was ridiculed relentlessly during those one hundred years of obedience to God.
But Noah remained faithful and stayed the course.
Christians living today share a similar experience in their walk with the Lord.  Noah presents a positive example to us all.  Like Noah, we too must hold fast to what we believe.  We must keep the faith and not lose focus.

If Noah and his family wanted to be saved, they had to enter into the Ark.
There was no other way to survive God's wrath.

7: Then Noah and his sons, and his wife, and his son's wives with him entered the ark because of the water of the flood.

Some doubt the Ark's capability to hold the people, all the creatures, and all their food.
My initial response to that is this, God designed the Ark.  The Bible is clear on this point and that should be enough.
God is not in the habit of making mistakes.

The Bible gives us the exact dimensions of the Ark.
It was constructed according to God's design and not mans'.
Noah followed God's instructions to the letter.
"Noah did all that God commanded."

The Ark was a rectangular box. It was not a boat or a ship.
It resembled a coffin more than it did anything else.
The Ark was not powered because it was not going anywhere.
The Ark was built to survive the storm and that's it.

The Ark was 450 ft. long; 75 ft. wide, and 45 ft. high.
That equals the height of a three-story building with 15 ft. ceilings.
And it was a football field and a half in length.

Now let's look at the interior.  The total available floor space on the Ark would have been over 100,000 sq. ft., which is more than floor space than in twenty standard-sized basketball courts.

The total cubic volume would have been 1,528,000 cubic feet and that would equal the capacity of 569 modern railroad stock cars.

Next, which animals would need to occupy space on the Ark?
God only provided the Ark for the protection of humans and land-dwelling, air-breathing creatures.  No water dwellers needed to be aboard.  Doctors Morris and Whitcomb in their classic book, "The Genesis Flood," based on their research, state that no more than 35,000 individual animals needed to go aboard the Ark.

John Woodmorappe, in his well documented book, "Noah's Ark: A Feasibility Study," suggests that far fewer animals would have been transported upon the Ark.  So, there's some disagreement.  But Woodmorappe demonstrates that as few as 2,000 creatures may have been required on the Ark.  To pad this number for human error, he continues his study by showing that the Ark could easily accommodate 16,000 animals.

But let's be generous and add a reasonable number to include extinct animals.  Then add on some more to satisfy even the most skeptical.  Let's assume 50,000 animals, far more animals than required, were on board the Ark, and these creatures need not have been the largest or even adult specimens.

Remember there are really only a few large animals on board.  The dinosaur or the elephant could be represented by young ones and not necessarily full grown creatures.

Assuming the average animal to be about the size of a sheep and using a railroad car for comparison, we note that the average double-deck stock car can accommodate 240 sheep.  Thus, three trains hauling 69 cars each would have ample space to carry the 50,000 creatures, filling only 37% of the Ark.  This would leave an additional 361 stock cars or enough to make 5 trains of 72 stock cars each to carry all the food and baggage plus Noah's family of eight people.  Clearly, the Ark had plenty of space and then some.

Let's get back to our study of Genesis chapter seven.

Genesis 7

8: Of clean animals and animals that are not clean and birds and everything that creeps on the ground,

9: there went into the ark to Noah by two's, male and female, as God commanded Noah.

10: It came about after seven days, that the water of the flood came upon the earth.

11: In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all the fountains of the deep burst open, and the floodgates of the sky were opened.

In verse eleven, God gives us the month, and the day, on which the flood occurred.  April is the first month in Scripture; so this would have been in the month of May,on the 17th day, and in the six hundredth year of Noah's life.

What I want you to see next is that the flood was much, much more than just forty days and forty nights of continuous rain.  The flood event was violent and cataclysmic.
Where do I get this information?  Right from Scripture of course.

Let's review verse eleven again.
...on the same day all the fountains of the deep burst open, and the floodgates of the sky were opened.

So, the fountains of the deep burst (exploded) open, not just one or two of these fountains, but all of them, and all at once.  What are the fountains of the deep? Good question.

As the "deep" in Scripture usually refers to the ocean (See Genesis 1:2), so the "great deep" which was "broken up" speaks of great subterranean reservoirs or chambers deep inside the earth, all of which spewed forth their contents at the same time.  And from my understanding of this event, not only were great reservoirs of water released all at once, but volcanic eruptions occurred as well, spewing lava, smoke, and ash all over the planet.  Now think.
When something bursts, is this an orderly event?  Hardly, it is sudden, and violent.

On May 18th, 1980, the eruption of Mount St. Helen's in southwest Washington State disrupted the lives of thousands and changed more than 200 square miles of rich forest into a gray, lifeless landscape.
More than 1,300 feet of the mountain was blasted away.  The largest landslide in recorded history swept down the mountain at speeds of 70 to 150 mph and buried the North Fork of the Toutle River under an average of 150 ft. of debris.  Some areas are covered by as much as 600 ft. of debris.  In all, approximately 23 square miles of material was removed from the mountain.

The lateral blast swept out of the north side of MSH at 300 mph creating a 230 square mile fan shaped area of devastation reaching a distance of 17 miles from the crater.  With temperatures as high as 660 degrees F and the power of 24 megatons of thermal energy, it snapped 100 year old trees like toothpicks.

This was just one volcanic eruption.  Now picture this happening all around the globe.
The Bible tells us this "break up" continued all over the earth for 150 days.  (See Genesis 8:3).

The reference to "broken up" merits our attention, for it implies a wrenching of the earth's crust, a great tectonic event.  The same word is used in the book of Numbers 16:30-33 to describe the supernatural opening up of a great pit into which the rebellious Jews and their families fell, thereby squelching their mutiny against Moses' leadership.

Any such wrenching of the earth's crust results in earthquakes and if occurring under water, results in devastating tsunamis (sometimes called tidal waves) traveling through the water at speeds approaching the speed of sound.
Continued pulsation of these fountains all over the earth for 150 days would totally restructure the surface of the earth, thus demonstrating God's hatred for the sin of the unbelieving world.

Please consider all this information before we press on.  Let it sink in...

Volcanic eruptions are occurring everywhere, and there were violent earthquakes occurring all around the planet.
In addition, vast reservoirs of water were released from beneath the earth, all at once, combining with these earthquakes, and tsunamis.  Pretty violent scenario wouldn't you say?  But there is more.

The next item in verse eleven we want to look at is, ...and the floodgates of the sky were opened.

Today floodgates are used to control the flow of water into a flood basin.  Have you ever seen floodgates opened?
Floodgates are opened to relieve pent-up pressure.  So, when floodgates are opened, water gushes forth.
Now look at the back end of verse eleven again,...and the floodgates of the sky were opened.

Floodgates hold back water.  So, where did all this water come from?  Scripture holds the answer.

Genesis 1

1: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

2: The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over (Watch this carefully) the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the (What?) waters.

Verse two tells us that the earth, at this time, was formless, void, and covered by water.  Skip to verse six.

6: Then God said, "Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.

7: God made the expanse (Atmosphere), and separated the waters which were below the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse...

Many theologians believe that some of this water was placed above the earth in a canopy or vapor belt out in space and around this planet.  As usual, I'm going to go by what the Bible says.  Turn to the book of Psalms.

Psalms 148

4: Praise Him, highest heavens, And the waters that are (Where?) above the heavens!

This water, which we found to be present in Genesis verse two, was separated by God.  Some of this water evidently was placed in vast underground reservoirs.  Some of this water was placed into a vapor belt out in space, and that laid the foundation then for the spring-like weather that enveloped the planet from one end to the other.

From pole to pole, at one time, this planet's temperature remained constant.  Archeological evidence exists which support this Bible truth.  Tropical vegetation has been found buried beneath the ice in Siberia.

Early on, this planet experienced a constant temperature; and since it was constant, there was no weather.               The Bible states that it had never rained before the flood.  God watered the planet with a mist from where?
From beneath the ground.  So, when Noah began talking about this great rain event coming soon, it's no wonder the people who heard it thought he was off his rocker.

To quickly review what we have covered, after Noah and his family were safely inside the Ark, and after God waited those seven days, God shut the door... the fountains of the deep burst open, and the floodgates of the sky were opened.

God's judgment was instantaneous and violent!  This entire planet was turned upside down and inside out by these tremendous acts of God.  If you take the time to "dig deeper" into the account of the flood, you'll find that archeologists, most of them, but not all of them, scoff at the idea a the world-wide flood account in Scripture.

Think back.  Does anyone here remember being introduced or given information about Noah's flood in a history or science class?  If you attended a Christian school, or the like, the answer is probably yes.  However, I can tell you from my experience in the public school system this subject never came up.

There is scientific evidence which supports the Bible's account of a world-wide flood even at or about 6,000 years ago.  I want to spend a few minutes going over some of this physical evidence with you.

Evidence of a Global Flood

There is much evidence for a global flood including evidence from geology, archeology, ancient legends, Biblical consistency, and from Jesus Christ Himself.  The world-wide flood, the Biblical story, and the evidence found all fit together perfectly.

In general, the credibility of the worldwide flood story in the Bible is supported by unrelated facts that support the truth of the Bible.  In recent years, much archeological evidence has been found that supports the truth of many facts documented in the Bible.  Also, Jesus, God in the flesh, completely supported the truth of the Old Testament and quoted it often.

The climate in the pre-flood era was different than after the flood.  Before the flood, it never rained and instead, a mist watered the surface of the earth.  The climate was warm and moderate, which was favorable to plant and animal life from pole to pole.  Evidence of high concentrations of bones found all over the globe is consistent with what would be expected from a tropical, lush, pre-flood environment and a catastrophic worldwide flood. Some of these areas include Nebraska, a cave of San Ciro in Sicily, ossiferous fissures in England and Western Europe, including the Rock of Gibraltar.

The only possible explanation for most fossils is rapid depostion from a catastrophic event.  The worldwide flood is the only satisfactory explanation for all this evidence.  The uniformitarianism philosophy that was made popular by evolutionists 150 years ago cannot explain the fossil evidence.  Additional evidence that completely supports catastrophism and recent depositions are discoveries in the polar regions where animals are left standing with undigested food in their stomachs.

There is much archeological evidence confirming the Flood of Noah.  There is a tablet in Babylon on which one of the Babylonian kings mentions his enjoyment in reading the writings of those who lived before the flood.
Another Babylonian tablet gives an interesting confirmation.  Noah was the tenth generation from Adam according to the Bible, and this Babylonian tablet names the ten kings of Babylon who lived before the flood.
Another tablet names all the kings of Babylon; and after the first ten there are these words, "The Deluge came up..."

Stories of Noah's flood have been found in almost every civilization in the world.  Dr. Aaron Smith of the University of Greesboro collected a complete history of the literature on Noah's Ark.  He found 80,000 works in 72 languages about the flood event.  About 70,000 of these mention the wreckage of the ark.

The odds are astronomically long that these supposedly distinct civilizations would have the same legend of a global floor with eight people surviving from the pre-flood population, if it were not real history that happens to corroborate the Genesis account.

The Flood - The Physical Evidence

The flood "myth" is not just some ancient allegory meant to teach us about God's judgment on sin.  The flood was a real historical event and earth's crust bears witness to this in many compelling ways.  Consider the fossil record: billions and billions of dead things buried in sedimentation (laid down by water rock) found all over the earth.

Geologist Dr. John Morris explains.  "Sedimentary rocks, by definition, are laid down as sediments by moving fluids, are made up of pieces of rock or other material which existed somewhere else, and were eroded or dissolved and redeposited in their present location."  Over 70% of the earth's surface rock is sedimentary rock (the rest of earth's surface rock is volcanic igneous and metamorphic rock).

In these sedimentary rock layers, geologists find some very odd features.  For example, fossilized trees are buried at all angles, upside down and right side up, often passing through multiple layers, obviously the result of a marine cataclysm.  These "polystrate" fossils (poly = more than one; strate = rock layer) are worldwide phenomenon.

Consider the ratios of dead things we find buried in this sedimentary rock: "95% of all fossils are marine invertebrates, particularly shellfish.  Of the remaining 5%, 95% are algae and plant fossils.
Also consider the abundant fossil remains of marine life found atop every mountain range in the world.
For example, clusters of hundreds of gigantic (up to 650 lbs each) oysters found atop the Andes Mountains in South America.

The Existence of Extremely Large Numbers of Fossils

Fossilization requires rapid burial.  Yet such burial is exceedingly rare today, and fossilization is almost non-existent in modern times.  The existence of massive numbers of fossils worldwide is clear evidence of quick, deep, mass burial.  A global flood catastrophe would offer conditions most ideal to the location of great numbers of fossils.  These fossils give evidence that these animals were all killed suddenly.

Hugh Miller wrote decades ago that the British Isles are underlain by billions of fish fossils, not laid down by normal sedimentary deposits.  But many of these fish have arched backs, distended gills, and open mouths as if trying to get oxygen, but caught with silt in their gills instead and destroyed by a cataclysmic sedimentary context.

Thousands and millions of fish fossils which retain all the body parts indicating very rapid burial are found.
Under normal conditions, fish do not fossilize.  Dead fish are torn apart and eaten by scavengers and/or disintegrated by bacteria.

There are huge ancient whale fossils that can be found buried in sediment.  In California there was found in the earth an 80 ft. long whale upright on its tail.  In order to sweep such a massive creature like that up on its tail, in order to sedimentarally encase it would require global catastrophic proportions.

As I said earlier, on this side of the Biblical Flood event, we have the ability to look back through the "sands of time" to review all the evidence which exists.  When you combine all the scientific evidence together with the Biblical truth, and the very words of Jesus Christ Himself, there can be no doubt as to the flood's authenticity.

Now, those who put their faith in science instead of the Creator God are going to scoff at these facts and the evidence which has been presented here tonight.  But that is not something new.
Unbelief is common and has been going on for centuries.

Now please don't misunderstand me.  I respect good science; and I have a healthy respect for all those who have drawn to devote their lives to discovery and healing.  In the medical profession, for example, millions have benefited from their dedication and their research.  Having said that, you need to understand scientists and historians are not always honest with the facts.

One of the most recent examples of this truth is found in the news today.  I'm speaking about "climate-gate."
Evidently communications in the form of e-mail have turned up; and in these communications scientists are ordered to conceal scientific data which disproves the theory of global warming.  This evidence was subsequently suppressed because it alters the agendas of certain governments and individuals.

Heads of state from all over the world are meeting in Copenhagen, as I write this lesson, to discuss global warming and how the industrialized nations of the world should respond financially to those governments of the world which have been affected negatively by this threat.  Sounds good to you?  Look more carefully my friends and you'll see lies, and deception, and much worse.

So scientists are not always truthful about their findings.  The Bible warns us about such things.

I Timothy 6

20:O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called "knowledge"
(The KJV Bible has translated the word knowledge as science)

21: which some have professed and thus gone away from the faith.

The apostle Paul is warning Timothy to watch out for those false sciences.
For true science never disagrees with Scripture.
True science and Scripture always fit together like hand in glove.  When your faith is based on what man says instead of what God has revealed to man, you are walking on thin ice.

II Peter 3

1: This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you in which I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder.

2: that you should remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets (Or those things written in the O.T.) and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken by your apostles.

3: Know this first of all (We are to understand this truth), that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, (And what is the attitude of these scoffers?)

4: and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming?  For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation (In other words, nothing has changed).

5: For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water.  (Please note that this speaks of two different "water" events which occurred on this planet during its history.)

6: through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded by water.

The KJV Bible translation of verse five reads like this, "For this they are willingly ignorant of..."
And I believe this is a more accurate interpretation of this verse.

When it says they are "willingly ignorant," what is that telling us?
They don't want to know anything different from what believe to be true.
Fact is, they won't even listen or consider anything else that is offered.
They will not accept the Biblical account of the flood.

We know from the chronological record that Noah's flood occurred no more than 6,000 years ago.
Science supports it and Scripture lays it out in print for us.

Now what does that do to all their teaching about millions and millions of years of evolution?
Why it just blows it right out of the water.  So, they totally reject the account of the Noah's flood.
Remember back a ways I said scientists do not always reveal truth.  Let's review another example.
This ties in so perfectly with those evolutionists who teach and proclaim their theory as fact.

Before we landed on the moon, there was much controversy.
The unanswered question was this; would the spacecraft sink into all that moon dust?
Well, we know now that the spacecraft did not sink much more than twelve inches.
Well this shocked the scientific community at that time.  So, they went to work building an instrument to calculate and measure how much and how fast this solar dust was accumulating on the moon's surface.
To these scientists, the fact that only a few inches of moon dust had collected, did not make sense if the moon was indeed billions and billions of years old.

When they went back to the moon, they brought their instruments to measure the accumulation of dust on its surface and they set it out.  They went back to the moon and they reviewed the data and were stunned by the findings.  Instead of some infinitesimal amount, there was a fraction of an inch, which measured and calibrated meant the moon could not be much more than 10,000 years old at the most.

You know what they decided to do with this information?  They buried it.
They did not want the public to know the truth about their findings, even though the public had a right to know.
This truth did not surface until just a few years ago.

And so every time unbelievers scoff at the revealed truth of God's word, all you have to do is just sit back and say, this is the Word of God and God does not lie.  I'll put my faith in what God has said.

For the most part, the scientific community will not recognize Noah's flood as fact because it changes everything.
Instead of this planet going back millions and millions of years, which is what they believe and teach in our schools, in truth it only goes back to the time of Noah's flood.

Even carbon-14 dating cannot be completely accurate either until up to the time of the flood, because carbon-14 dating is based on continuous degeneration under continuous circumstances.
But those continuous circumstances were interrupted at Noah's flood.

Remember, good science will always align with the revealed truth of God.

Genesis 7

12: The rain fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights.

Put a bookmark there.  When we return, we'll finish chapter seven of Genesis.
