Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth
(II Timothy 2:15)
“Come out of her…”
4: I heard another voice from heaven, saying, “Come out of her (this ungodly one-world order. This is a warning to all peoples and not just those who find themselves immersed in the plagues of the tribulation. You can pick the book up and read it now), my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive of her plagues.”
In the upcoming Bible lesson, Les makes a comment that I want to expand upon.
We must function in this world, but we are not to live as the ungodly prefer to do.
Les goes on to say that it is getting more difficult to recognize a Christian operating in our society today because they “blend” in so well with all the other people out there. I’m paraphrasing of course but you get the idea.
Should we be “blending” in with the God rejecting world so much so that we become scarcely noticeable? Is this what the Lord Jesus Christ expects from us Believers?
Are we to mix with the unbelieving population at all?
Or, are we to be different? If so, how are we to be different?
Why is it difficult, in some cases, to do the right thing at the right time, in your opinion?
These are just a few of the questions I’d like to address in this series of Bible lessons.
Scripture holds the answers to these questions and the Word is quite clear.
In other words, there’s no mystery here.
The world is getting smaller by the day. Agreed? If something happens in Iraq at noon, fifteen minutes later it’s on the news here in America. If the stock market in Asia has a bad day, then you can bet when the NYSE opens the following day so will they.
Greece’s financial problems affect how many nations? On and on it goes you see.
The earth isn’t in the process of becoming a “world community” it is already a world community. The earth has some distance to go before it gets to where it must be Biblically, as we’ve been studying the events in the book of Revelation.
But look around and take notice. Are we on the way there? Yes, we are.
That being said, let’s get back on topic. You and I, we get out of bed each day, get dressed, leave home, and then we all must function in this world no matter where we have chosen to live on this planet. That being the case you need to aware of this truth.
We are subject to covetous desires.
Why do places like Wall Street exist?
Places like Wall Street, Las Vegas, Reno, Nevada, the Florida Lotto System, and so many others, exist to feed a specific yearning or desire which is evident in every man and woman. And that’s GREED.
Mankind is never satisfied with what they have. They are always searching.
Just this week Apple came out with their new I pad. Did you see the marketing hype that preceded this event? Anyway, the thing is not out on the street yet, but there is a sign-up sheet and you can pre-order yours. The price is right around $500.
My advice is to wait! Next year the new one will be out.
People with the “old” I Pad are already trying to dump it so they can pick up the new one. There isn’t anything wrong with their old one. It works just fine.
But you see…it isn’t NEW. These folks COVET the New I Pad. They WANT it.
They don’t need it. They WANT it. I pray you see the difference.
There is such a difference between a Want and a need.
We need things like food, shelter, clothing, love, acceptance, etc.
Where we tend to get into trouble is in the area of “the wants.”
People this is Satan’s territory. Why do I say this? It’s simply the truth.
You see God is in the business, if you will, of taking care of our NEEDS.
Satan is only interested in the area of our WANTS.
What is another word for wants? How about desires?
Is this beginning to come into focus?
Take this concept, please, all the way back to the Garden of Eden experience.
It was utopia on the earth, a perfect relationship between the Creator God and His creation existed at that time, it was absolutely ideal. Until…the Woman (Eve) was deceived by the serpent and became “unsatisfied” with her present situation and hoped for better conditions after she ate the forbidden fruit… Get the picture?
My co-worker received a new 3G cell phone at Christmas last year; knew nothing about that technology at the time so there was quite the learning curve.
Now it is one year later and all I am hearing are complaints about this free gift.
The new ones have a better camera.
The new ones are faster, smaller, prettier; the list seems endless.
There is nothing wrong with the cell phone you understand?
It works just fine. It does everything it’s supposed to do.
My co-worker is no longer satisfied with it.
GOT TO HAVE THE NEW ONE… THAT’S THE MESSAGE I’M GETTING.
Les taught me something a few years back and I’d like to share it with you now.
Remember the Ten Commandments?
Are you aware that you cannot break a single commandment without first coveting?
Why do people steal? They covet an item belonging to another.
Why do people tell a lie, murder, cheat on their spouse, etc?
You cannot commit a sin, any sin, without first coveting.
Covetous and greed are synonymous. They’re back-yard buddies.
Are you in a safe position because you’re a Christian?
We’re you misled? Did someone tell you that the Christian life was going to be easy?
What was it the Apostle Paul said?
Please turn to the book of Romans chapter seven.
The Conflict of Two Natures
19: For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want.
20: But if I am doing the very thing I do not want, I am no longer the one doing it, but sin which dwells in me.
Take heart Believers! You’re normal. Please skip down to verse 25.
25: Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin.
And now for two of the greatest Bible verses ever put to paper.
1: Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
2: For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has (what) set you free from the law of sin and of death.
