Rightly Dividing the Word of Truth
(2 Timothy 2:15)
This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 1Timothy 2:3-4
Romans by the Book
We began our study by reviewing article #1 of Paul’s opening statement in the first lesson, where he declared himself to be a “bond servant of Jesus Christ.”
I’m not going to take the time to go over this teaching again.
For our new visitors I suggest you go over this material at your leisure.

The Book of Romans
The Gospel Exalted
1: Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,
We left off examining Romans 1:1 and as I said we’re going to slow down and take a good look at this verse because it sets “the stage” for this entire letter to the Romans.
Now let’s examine article #2, “called as an apostle,” or an apostle by calling.
Note: the word “called” is used by Paul three times in the first seven verses of Romans.
- called as an apostle (verse 1)
- you (Believers) also are the called of Jesus Christ (verse 6)
- all who are beloved of God in Rome, called as saints: (verse 7)
The Greek word for “Called” is “kletos” and means: divinely selected and appointed.
It describes one who has been designated and set apart by AN ACTION of God.
In the sixth verse, the saints (Believers) are described in the words, “called as Jesus Christ’s.” What does this mean?
They were “given” to Him by God the Father; (John 17) and connected with Jesus Christ before their earth history; “chosen in Him before the foundation of the world” (Ephesians 1:4). And in the seventh verse they are “called as saints,” which means they were saints by divine sovereign calling, having been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ.
“…called as an apostle…”
This is the meaning of the word “called” with Paul.
But Paul was not only “called” by the Lord Jesus Christ Paul was sent!
The word apostle is derived from the Greek “apostolos,” meaning "one who is sent."
15: But the Lord said to him (Ananias), “Go, for he (Saul) is a (what) chosen instrument of Mine, to bear My name before the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel;
An apostle is God’s messenger.
Although the Lord Jesus Christ CLEARLY CALLED Saul of Tarsus to be the apostle to the Gentiles, as I have shown you from Scripture above, many (and I do mean many) people refuse to recognize his apostleship.
They “label” him the self-professed apostle.
Meaning: as far as they’re concerned, Paul is a charlatan. He’s a fraud.
But the Lord Jesus Christ did choose Paul to bear His name before the Gentiles, kings, and the sons of Israel, which is a dispensational change.
The Grace Age mysteries, once kept secret in the mind of God since the beginning of time, were revealed only to Paul.
